Connection

We returned from London yesterday morning. My husband attended a Dental conference there. I spent the mornings at the museums while he was at the conference. One can spend hours there without feeling bored. Moreover all the three museums were teeming with people. There were lots of school children with their teachers. It was as if the โ€˜presentโ€™ was making the โ€˜pastโ€™ more alive.

At one of the museums, a lady from Canada and I were admiring gold jewelry from long ago. We got talking and it was nice because our thoughts were the same. We believed that life moved in circles. There was not much difference between the ornaments of the present and those of the past. Human nature does not change and in a way that is very reassuring. Looking at the ornaments, she said there is a connection between people across space and time. It is true because two of us from different parts of the world met for a short time and connected.

There are connections of different types. I love books and one of my favourite ones is Trustee from the Toolroom by Nevil Shute and the hero Keith Stewart is also one of my favourite heroes. A few months ago we were searching for a good Bread and Breakfast and when I read about Hotel Abbey Lodge in Ealing Broadway, there was a connection. Keith Stewart lived near Ealing Broadway and his wife, Katie used to work in Ealing Broadway. The hotel lived up to our expectations. Walking around Ealing Broadway and looking at all the houses there, made the book more alive than it already was.

Near Ealing Broadway tube station, there was another connection too, that first day. As we came out of the station we asked a man for directions. He was very helpful, following the directions in his mobile, he came with us till the hotel. He was from Sri Lanka. When we thanked him, he told meย  when he saw me he remembered his mother. I was touched.

Actually going to London did not seem like going to a new place because we have grown up reading books which were set in London. All the names seemed so familiar. I am smiling even as I write this, it seems a little crazy but there is a connection. :)) And of course, WordPress is a place where so many of us, from different parts of the world are connecting. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Lovely post, Laskshmi – you made me smile too ๐Ÿ™‚ I know that since I have been on WordPress, I feel we are all a lot more connected than I ever realised before – it is always fascinating to ‘meet’ people (whether in reality or in our virtual world) and find we have so much in common. It sounds like you had a wonderful time in London ๐Ÿ™‚
