Life Song of the Road

Writing 101, Poetry: The Commons , BELOVED

‘Something about the very word “beloved” causes a frisson in us. Out of the people that matter to you, who matters the most? Whom do you love, or whom have you loved more than anyone else? What does the word “beloved” summon up in your imagination? What songs, poems, stories, movies spring to mind? Who is your beloved?’

One look at him
And Life changed forever.
All wrapped up
He was in my arms.
That tiny being
Who pulled my heart strings
Life changed forever.

Life has moved a full circle
Being loved by grandparents
Who made us feel loved.
Now we are grandparents
And beloved is our grandson.
Then a little tiny being
Now a toddler
Who knows we are his to obey
Without question.
Not only we, his grandparents
But also his great-grandparents.

He is far away
But Skype brings us together.
Those moments are precious
Making life wonderful
And beloved.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Metal and Wood

This week’s topic is Metal and Wood.  Any photo that has both metal and wood in it. It can be a table that is made from both wood and metal or a photo of something metal and trees or logs prominent in the photo as well.  Both items need to be represented somehow.   Be creative.   Feel free to dig around in your archives for photos if you don’t have anything new you can photograph.

This is the ancestral house where my father-in-law grew up, in a small village in North Kerala. The wooden windows and the metal sheets outside. Last week there had been a religious function and all the family and extended family had gathered. These metal sheets on the ground as a low wall and as a roof had been erected for this reason, and for shade too.

The side of the house, with wooden windows and the metal sheets on the edge of the roof for water to flow down, during monsoons.
