Life Song of the Road

Sweet is the fragrance
Of the night-blooming flowers
Looking like small stars
Their scent makes the night fragrant
Adding warmth to the dark world.

The Daily Post Photo Challenge : Layered

This week, share with us a layered image of your own. The topic is wide open, as long as you focus on the interplay of depth, density, and texture (or just choose one of these elements if you’d like). Strata of clouds, a shirt collar peeking through a sweater, a cross-section of an onion: you can keep your interpretation as literal or as figurative as you wish.

During the festival of Onam, we saw this beautiful Pookalam in front of a house. The layers of flowers and the design touched the heart. That family must have enjoyed themselves.

Layers of petals and the shades of colours 🙂

New Experiences (Slice of Life)

What would it be like to never have changes in life? Imagine a life when we have to keep on doing the same things, day in and day out. We all need those changes. They can be of short duration or of long ones. Attending a music concert or going to the movies is like being in a different world. It is not possible for all to go to different places for their vacations. A lot of money is needed. Any change, of course, not the bad ones are welcome. New experiences enrich our lives.

Last week there was Literature Festival in the University Campus not far from our place. We attended many panel discussions involving literature, films, poetry and so on. They were an enriching experience. There was a panel discussion titled ‘Blindness in Literature’. We enjoyed these new experiences which took us to another world.

For me one of the most beautiful sights in nature is seeing two butterflies flying together. It looks as if they are floating circles. A moment when time stops.

“The two butterflies
Flying, floating together
Like graceful dancers
Touching and missing petals
Nature at its dancing best.”

Nature’s wish (Slice of Life)

Nature’s wish (Slice of Life)

This year the rains have been a little different. We had good rains in June and July. But, in August, it is was if the rains played musical chairs with us. It rained for a whole week, and then there was no rain for a week. For the last three weeks, we in Coastal Karnataka have not been having good rains. However we have been reading in the newspapers that many large dams in our state have almost completely filled up.
There is a large lake in our place. There are inlets in different places for the water from surrounding areas to flow into reservoir. By September the lake fills to the brim. This year, by the end of August, water had reached the brim but now the level has gone down. We just hope the rains come again. Wonder what nature’s wish is.

“It should be raining,
But rains have deserted us.
The heart fills with dread.
What is life without water?
Thinking leads to a nightmare.”

“Acting with passion,

Becoming the characters,

The play touched the hearts.”

When I read the two words in this week’s challenge, the first thought that came to me was ‘Yakshagana’. It is a traditional theatre form of coastal Karnataka. There is a Yakshagana training centre not far from our home. There are many who are very interested in learning this traditional art form, which is a blessing.

Yakshagana – Wikipedia

Yakshagana ( Tulu : “ಆಟ”, Sanskrit : ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ) is a traditional theatre form that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form.
