Everyday Moments (# SOL- 2019)

slice-of-life_individual

I first came across the Slice of life some time in 2017 and it has become a very nice part of my life. I like reading the slices by bloggers from different parts of the world. Our everyday moments everywhere are not very different. These moments make our life what it is. I started writing to my Doddamma, my father’s elder brother’s wife in October 2017. She is 88 and is not able to hear properly. I post my letter to her to her every week. I edit the letters and post them as Slice of Life every Tuesday.

It has been raining since 18th night. The weather forecast was proved right. On the 21st afternoon there was break but it started raining that night again. We are all welcoming it because everyone was scared when there were no rains in June and water scarcity too. It is 3.15 as I am writing this and it is pouring and dark.

Life in Asare, home for the mentally challenged, is going on as usual. A small boy with autism had come there for three weeks. His family had come to their hometown for a vacation. He was not able to speak but could understand everything that was told to him. They have gone back to America. They live there.

On the 17th evening we went to the temple of Goddess Mahishamardini near our home. We love to attend the evening puja there. It is a small temple, serene and peaceful. I finished stitching a kurta for our grandson and I am stitching a frock for our grand daughter 😊 I enjoy stitching.

Last week we went to EndPoint for our evening walk. We wanted to see the water in the new pond made there. It is full. My mother sat on the one of the seats by the side of the football ground. I walked on till the end. She met a lady from Mumbai and they were talking as we came back. That lady was from Mumbai visiting her children. She was missing the big city which was her home. Ours is a small place. And my mother when she had gone there to be with Doddamma had wondered how people lived in a city 😊.

I learnt something new last week. I did not know how to take a screen shot and learnt about the snipping tool and was feeling very excited. There is so much that we do not know and it so nice when we learn something about which we have no idea.

On the 21st we went to Maikuri, our village to spend the day with my father-in-law. He was in his own world most of the time. I was feeling sad to see how we change as we grow older. He was always such an active person and always very caring about people. He cannot hear and see well. That troubles him and he is withdrawing into himself. I called our daughter through WhatsApp video call. He could not see her but was very happy to hear her voice. She and children are coming August 10th and will be with us till September 1st. In the morning it had been raining all the way but in the evening it was dry. We returned home by 6.30. While we were drinking coffee my husband’s cousin and family came to see us. We were very happy to see them. They were on their way back to their home. We were happy to give them two jackfruits. There are still six or seven more. We have to pluck them soon otherwise they will spoil.

My mother is busy stitching two small bags for her great grandchildren. She enjoys it. She used to stitch clothes for us and for herself.

I finished a fascinating book, The Lost River- On the trail of the Saraswati by Michel Danino and I am listening to talks on Garuda Purana by the noted Sanskrit scholar, Bannanje Govindacarya on Youtube.
It is almost 4 o’clock and it is good to see that it is still raining. Though it is causing problems for so many. Nature has her own rules.

“The rain began again. It fell heavily, easily, with no meaning or intention but the fulfilment of its own nature, which was to fall and fall.”
– Helen Garner (Australian novelist)
