Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “clean/dirty.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you like. Enjoy!
I am sitting in our verandah writing this. In the distance I see dark clouds approaching. All my recent posts have been about our rains. We did not have any rains in June when we should have been getting rains. Our monsoon season started a month late on July 9th. Since then we have been getting good rains with occasional breaks in between. Some days it just pours as if the heavens have opened up, other days it drizzles the whole day. Earlier, people used to get quite fed up with the rains and would wait for a break. But now no one will say enough of rain. We were all worried and scared.
Before the rains came we had a very hot summer and the humidity was high too. And behind our house a slope was being levelled for some construction. This is happening everywhere, valleys getting filled and mountains being levelled. I wonder what will happen in the future. So, mud was being transported from morning to evening for two months. It was dry then and there was dust everywhere. All the plants, everywhere looked a dirty brown. It looked as if they could not breathe. We used to water the plants but it had no effect, they continued to look dirty. Then, we had water problems, we had to be very careful. We used to get corporation water once a week and on that day we watered the plants as generously as possibly.
But, the rains made all the difference. The occasional rains in June changed the colour of the plants. All the dirt was washed away and the leaves looked so clean. They looked as if they were smiling, a great burden had been washed away. Now, with good rains all the trees and plants are being washed every day. Their being dirty is a distant memory now. They look clean and green at all moments.
