Musings of a guide (Sunday Photo fiction)

Amar felt old when he looked at the young tourists. He was a guide in the palace and had been working there for more than four decades. He looked with wonder at the youngsters busy clicking pictures.

His thoughts went back to those days when life had been so different. Back then, tourists were more interested in looking at those reminders of life lived long ago. But now people were more interested in taking their own photos. When had these changes taken place? He loved his work and many a time his wife used to tell him that he lived more in the past than in the present world. And it was true. The past fascinated him.

His gaze fell on the young lady wearing big sun-glasses. He could not make out where she was looking but he did know that she was looking at herself from all angles. Why she had come here? Was she really interested in this heritage building? He shook his head and looked away. He found it difficult to understand such people. He was growing older and maybe the time had come for him to retire. The thought made him sad.

I am a person who believes there is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of a small candle.
We live in a small place in South India. I love reading, blogging, stitching, traveling, photography, listening to people and many other things which make life so very nice and interesting. Blogging is a fun experience, it has brought me into contact with people in different parts of the world and it is good to read about their everyday life. In spite of the differences there is a sameness which is fascinating. I have learnt and am learning something everyday. I have learnt to write haikus. I enjoy combining the thought and the number of syllables. I have always read books but now I am learning to write fiction. Sunday photo fiction is fun and challenging.
Yes, there is so much in life that is sad and that hurts us. Many a time I wonder why life is so unfair to so many. We all have problems in life but the problems of many seems unbearable. This makes me feel so helpless. It is not possible to help everyone but we can do our bit, we can do something to help some in whatever way we can. I am doing something in my own way. Twice a week I go to a home for the mentally challenged . This has enriched my life.
There have been many challenges in life and we have faced them with a positive approach. Our grandson and granddaughter have made life so much more richer.

They say the more things change the more they stay the same –
that is in regards to some folks or people and their own self absorption.
I truly believe there have been several “Me” generations. πŸ™‚
