Life reflections

Everyday Moments (# SOL – 2019)

My weekly Slice of Life are my letters to my Doddamma. She is my father’s elder brother’s wife. Doddamma literally means ‘elder mother’. She is 88 years old. She cannot hear properly if I telephone to talk to her. So, I have been writing letters to her since October 2017. I enjoy writing letters and she is happy to read them. They are only about the everyday moments in my life. I post my letters to her every week.

The rains have finally stopped in this part of the country but we are still reading about heavy rains elsewhere. The weather is pleasant now. Last week we went walking to the lake side. The rains due to the cyclone Kyarr has once again increased the level of the water. We are lucky not to have suffered as people elsewhere are. How will they start their life all over again? It is difficult to even imagine.

My sister-in-law and mother came here on the 2nd afternoon. My mother will be here till second week of February.
Yesterday we attended the wedding of my husband’s cousin’s son. Another cousin and his wife came with us. It was nice meeting other cousins and families. It is not possible to visit relatives and weddings are good occasions to meet them.

This is the time when Bulbuls are busy building their nests. Some of them have been exploring inside our house for a safe place😊. We have to discourage them because we close the windows in the evening. They bring in a lot of dry leaves and twigs and I feel sad for all the wasted effort. So, I have kept the windows closed. Today they have not come. They must have found a better place. It is a pleasure to see birds fly from branches to branches and from flowers to flowers.

When I meet people from different parts of our country, I realize that there is so much that I don’t know . On our way to Endpoint, when we go for our evening walk we meet a couple and their two small grandsons. They live with their son and daughter-in-law when the grandchildren were born. The couple are very friendly and always greet and talk to people they meet. They are from the state of Bihar. The lady told me that they are going home for Deepawali and Chhath festival. I had never heard about it and she told me they worship the Sun God. Later I read about it. It was very interesting.
We learn something new every day.
Posted my letter to Doddamma today. My mother wrote to her too. There is a very strong bond of love and respect between the two.
