Everyday Moments (# SOL – 2019)

slice-of-life_individual

My weekly Slice of Life are my letters to my Doddamma. She is my father’s elder brother’s wife. Doddamma literally means ‘elder mother’. She is 88 years old. She cannot hear properly if I telephone to talk to her. So, I have been writing letters to her since October 2017. I enjoy writing letters and she is happy to read them. They are only about the everyday moments in my life. I post my letters to her every week.

Today was a very cloudy and we wondered whether it would rain again. It has rained in many other places. This year the monsoon season has been very, very different. God knows what is in store for us next year.

My husband went to his village today morning to be with his father. He opens YouTube in his mobile and my father-in-law enjoys Carnatic classical music.

Our son’s college has been hosting a literature festival since 2017. I have enjoyed them. This year it was on the 9th and 10th and theme of this year’s sessions was creative expressions in the digital world. All the sessions were very interesting and I enjoyed the learning experience. Aravind moderated a panel discussion called manuscripts to ManE-scripts: Rebuilding Resources. It was all about manuscripts and how they can be saved, restored and digitized. A session about Digi-cookery was very interesting.  Food blogs and videos have become so popular. I don’t know how well cookery books sell these days. There were two plays both the evenings but I did not attend. Plays have never interested me 😊.

20191110_092914On the 9th evening there was a wonderful performance. It was visual arts in virtual world. I do not know how to describe what the artist did. He calls this art Cosmic Splash

My husband and mother came for the session too.

I am stitching a salwar kameez for myself. It is going a little slow. Hopefully I will finish it within a week. Last week I made some chutney powder with curry leaves and dry coconut.

Life in Asare, home for the mentally challenged is going on as usual. Some of the staff have gone on leave. But they are managing with temporary staff. Some have to be fed and cleaned and changed. I keep asking myself why some have to suffer so much.

I am reading From the Holy Mountain by William Dalrymple and The Other face. Both books are very interesting. The Other Face by Na Mogasale is a translation from Kannada to English. Earlier I used to read one book at a time but now it is not so 😊.
