#SoCS Nov. 23/19

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “flyer/ad.” Look at the latest ad you got in the mail (if it’s a store flyer, choose the product right in the middle of the page) or choose the next online ad you find, and theme your post on whatever the product is. Do not name the brand if you hate it, unless you add that it’s an opinion/review of the product in question. You don’t want to chance getting sued. Have fun!

I usually ignore most advertisements. Many are so stupid, I wonder who they are trying to fool. But, there are a series of advertisements which have been my favourite for decades. I loved them as a college student and love them as a grandmother😊. These are advertisements of a Cooperative dairy company called AMUL, Anand Milk Union Limited.
This cooperative dairy was started by Dr Verghese Kurien. He made Dairy farming the largest self-sustaining industry in my country. He is known as father of White revolution. I loved his autobiography ‘I too had a Dream’. A dream that became a reality and is still a reality.
Amul started in the 1940s. We have grown up seeing its mascot, the Amul girl in her red polka dotted dress. I loved those advertisements and still do. They are so topical. Many a time I have to search in the internet about the topic shown in the advertisements. They are so apt. They make us smile and make us think and ponder about what is happening at home and far away. I remember the advertisement billboard in front of my college. They always showed Amul advertisements and we loved them.

Some days ago we saw this about the floods in Venice. In December we can see all the advertisements of this year in one page and they tell us all that has happened in this year. I can write so much more about the Amul girl and Amul with its logo, The Taste of India. But I will stop here.

Today evening we ate Amul ice cream 😊.

I am a person who believes there is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of a small candle. We live in a small place in South India. I love reading, blogging, stitching, traveling, photography, listening to people and many other things which make life so very nice and interesting. Blogging is a fun experience, it has brought me into contact with people in different parts of the world and it is good to read about their everyday life. In spite of the differences there is a sameness which is fascinating. I have learnt and am learning something everyday. I have learnt to write haikus. I enjoy combining the thought and the number of syllables. I have always read books and I was happy to write short fiction. I had thought I would not be able to do so. Stream of Consciousness and photo challenges are fun too. Yes, there is so much in life that is sad and that hurts us. Many a time I wonder why life is so unfair to so many. We all have problems in life but the problems of many seems unbearable. This makes me feel so helpless. It is not possible to help everyone but we can do our bit, we can do something to help some in whatever way we can. I go to the Home for the Mentally challenged in our campus twice a week. I have been going there since 2011. The members are an important part of my life. I did not go there in 2020. I started going in February but I have not been there for a month now because the number of Covid cases are increasing. There have been so many changes in our life, we will always remember the year 2020. There have been many challenges in life and we have faced them with a positive approach. Our grandson and granddaughter have made life so much more richer.
