#SoCS July 4/2020

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “toss.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

The word ‘toss’ immediately brought to mind one of the most popular movies enjoyed by most Indians. Sholay was released in in 1975. In the initial days it was not appreciated but as the days passed it became so popular and it ran for years in some theatres. Even now, after so many years it is as popular as it was. I remember we saw it in 1976 after our annual exams.  I had completed 9th std and it was showing in a theatre very near our house. It was a 70mm screen. It was an action movie and every character, even the minor ones, are still remembered. I have seen the movie many times over the years but only once in the theatre. Our movies have many songs but in Sholay the dialogues became and still are very popular. In those days we heard them in shops, in market places and even in schools and colleges.

There are two heroes in the movie, one is the strong, silent type and the other a fun loving extrovert. Both are petty thieves. The strong, silent hero always carried a coin in his pocket and whenever they faced a situation when they could not take a decision, he would toss the coin and their decision would be based on head or tails. The tossing of the coin plays a very important part in the movie.

I remember earlier we used to say that we could toss a coin to decide something but now it has been a long time. It is interesting how some words or actions just disappear from daily life and some prompt brings it back to our mind😊.

I am a person who believes there is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of a small candle.
We live in a small place in South India. I love reading, blogging, stitching, traveling, photography, listening to people and many other things which make life so very nice and interesting. Blogging is a fun experience, it has brought me into contact with people in different parts of the world and it is good to read about their everyday life. In spite of the differences there is a sameness which is fascinating.
I have learnt and am learning something everyday. I have learnt to write haikus. I enjoy combining the thought and the number of syllables. I have always read books and I was happy to write short fiction. I had thought I would not be able to do so. Stream of Consciousness and photo challenges are fun too.
Yes, there is so much in life that is sad and that hurts us. Many a time I wonder why life is so unfair to so many. We all have problems in life but the problems of many seems unbearable. This makes me feel so helpless. It is not possible to help everyone but we can do our bit, we can do something to help some in whatever way we can. I am doing something in my own way. Twice a week I go to a home for the mentally challenged . This has enriched my life.
There have been many challenges in life and we have faced them with a positive approach. Our grandson and granddaughter have made life so much more richer.

What a fantastic leap to go from “Toss” to Sholay. It is a favourite movie for me also. I think I’ve seen it now, four times. The last time was when I, too, was lucky enough to see it on the big screen last year. Such a joy. Thanks for the memory!
