It has been raining every day from 8th. Earlier there were almost ten sunny days with occasional rains. On Saturday evening it started raining and did not stop till Sunday evening. We were wondering about the amount of water up there. Early yesterday morning there was silence around us. We were thinking what was different and realised it was not raining 😊 There had been a steady downpour and we had got used to the sound of rain. There are many low-lying areas in our place and there are rivers and backwaters. There has been flooding in all those places. So much chaos and destruction.
Yesterday morning was sunny. We were seeing the sun after many days. But afternoon the weather changed. Suddenly dark clouds gathered and there was a steady downpour with wind. Seeing the sun my husband put his clothes out to dry. He had to run to bring them inside 😊. The weather is on my mind!

On the 16th was our grandson, Advaith’s 8th birthday, how time flies. Our daughter, Gayatri, Vinay and and children live in Germany. They had a small party for his friends at home. One of his friends wore a beautiful long dress and Kavya was fascinated by it. She wants one just like that. She will be four in November. My daughter was telling till a few months ago Kavya refused to wear frocks ! I had stitched two cross stitch mats for Advaith and Kavya. We posted them and some books to the children on the 14th. They will get it in two weeks. They would have come for their vacations end of this month. Hopefully they will be able to come next year.

Every afternoon my mother and I listen to music and stitch something. She is making a blanket from a cotton sari. She finds it very heavy to wear. I am doing cross stitch. My husband took a photo of us 😊.

Today evening we went to the lake in our place. We have not been there for months. The lake is almost full now. It is a rain water harvested lake. It is one of my favourite places. I feel so good to see so much water. The road to Endpoint, another favourite place for walking is still closed. There is a rainwater harvested lake there too We did not see it when it was full last year. I don’t know when we will be able to go there. How life has changed.
Pouring and pouring
The skies have opened
Water pelting down
Hitting the earth.
The skies have opened
The amount of water up there
Hitting the earth
Big drops and small drops.
Dark clouds gather
Sound of approaching rain
Water and wind together
Hit the plants and trees.
Sound of approaching rain
Gathering momentum
Hit the plants and trees
Pouring and pouring.

It is amazing how you get use to a sound around you and when it stops it takes a minute to figure out what is different. I think it is wonderful how you and your mother take stitching time in the afternoon.

I can guess that you’ve missed your daughter and grand children this year. I hope that next year when this Covid calamity is behind us they will come spend time with you. Regards SAN

Last photo reminds me of afternoons at my aaji’s(nani) place where my aaji and aai would be busy with their respective hobbies 🙂

Same weather here. I like it that it is no longer hot and that I don’t have to water the plants, but I’m afraid some of the plants are over watered now.

Too much rain??? I live in a rain forest and we haven’t had any rain at all. Our forests are on fire and our province has had to declare an emergency. Our planet is rebelling…

Oh God. We are reading about flooding in China and other places too. Yes, our planet is rebelling.

Lakshmi, I love your pantoum. The form seems perfect for your relentless, repeating rain these past few days. I love the picture of you and our mom stitching. It sound peaceful and comforting. I hope you get to see those sweet grandbabies soon!
