Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “a rainy day.” Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the phrase “a rainy day.” Enjoy!
Today’s prompt took me to my childhood days. Panchantantra, Jataka Tales and Aesop’s Fables added magic to those days. Ant and the Grasshopper was a loved story. I checked in Google whether the ant stored for a rainy day or for winter. It stored for winter. But a rainy day is suitable to my place because we do not have a winter but do have lots of rainy days. We see different types of ants here and they are always busy. I keep dishes with food on plates with water on the kitchen ledge. We can never tell when the ants feel like tasting the food or carry it away for hoarding. Twice I had to throw away bowls of rice. They were full of ants!
Like the ants we too save for the rainy day. It is scary to think about future without any savings. In the last two years, so many had to use their savings, there was no work. Now there is work, but very little savings. It is difficult to make ends meet. Coronavirus changed lives of people all over the world, in so many different ways.
Our monsoon season usually starts in June and stops by late October. But this year it was raining in early December too. Since then, they have stopped completely and a rainy day seems like a dream. There is construction work going on behind our house. Concrete mixers and other vehicles go to and fro the whole day. There is lot of dust and the green leaves of trees are no longer green. They have a layer of dust on them and I wonder whether they can breathe. They must be breathing because the plants have not died. We water them but that is not enough to clean all the leaves. They are in a sorry state and have to wait till June for a rainy day to get a really good bath😊.
Comments are welcome :)
