Last week was a very wet week. Sunday, it did not rain much but yesterday it was just pouring and today it was as if the skies had opened up ! There are problems if there is less rain and problems if there is more. Some are natural and other created by us. In some places there is no place for rain water to drain and the roads become waterways. This happens every year and those in charge do not learn from past mistakes.

Two days there was no rain early in the morning and the stillness was strange after listening to the sound rain pouring down. Sunday evening, we went for a walk around the lake. It was nice to see the water level rising. There are two big tree covered mounds on the lake bed. Now they have become islands once again. And both are home to many birds. It is a safe place to nest and we see them sitting on the branches. That is really something to smile about.
We have plucked some jackfruits from our tree. I made dosas, curries and even baked finger chips 😊. There are five more and unfortunately, they are beyond the reach of our plucking pole. We have asked someone to pluck them for us but it is raining too heavily. If we are to get them, we will. Otherwise, they will spoil, fall down and be manure for the coconut trees!
One morning we went to our town to sell the coconuts which were plucked last month. The price keeps varying, we got just Rs26 per kg. That is quite low. We had got the husks removed and the coconuts spoil after some time. They do not spoil if the husks are not removed.

I am reading a very interesting book, Indian Food: A historical companion by K T Achaya. A history book from the food angle 😊. It is fascinating that we are still eating food which had been eaten thousands of years ago.

The photo for What do you see by Sadje of a loving relationship between a girl and an older woman made me think about the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell. How can a woman act the way she has? Maybe she did not think of her and her partner’s victims as persons with emotions and feelings. People like her are pure evil and should die a slow and painful death. Life is horrifying for so many and most people cannot even imagine such an existence.

Birds around us at different times of the day, take us to a different world. It is good to be away.
Graceful small sunbirds
Seemed to break into a dance
Sighting a flower.

Thanks Lakshmi for sharing your thoughts and weekly update. Too much rain causes trouble in my city too where roads become canals and we think a boat is more useful than a car.
People who take advantage of others are the worst sort of human beings and are not deserving of a place in free society. Thanks for liking it to WDYS.

You capture both your daily actions and inner feelings so well in your writing. Having read your blurb before I clicked on the link, I was expecting to walk in the rain, see birds and learn about foods. but I kept reading and wondering what was the evil. You weave your daily life with your inner thinking of the a news piece so well. I was also intrigued by your comment: It is fascinating that we are still eating food which had been eaten thousands of years ago. So fascinating! Keep finding peace among the birds! I will think of you today as I take my walk in Virginia and see a cardinal.

Thank you for the glimpse into your week. The descriptions about the weather, fruits, and reading list paint a vivid picture. Happy slicing!

For a nice sweet-tempered person, you must have been severely shaken by Ghislaine Maxwell’s crimes to wish her a slow painful death.

I had to look at that last picture a few minutes to find the bird! 🤣

I too enjoy learning about the history of food. Here there are many traditions combined to produce “American” food and it is fun to learn about how they have merged.

I can never understand how people can harm children. It just seems such a peculiar thing to do.

As with all things, moderation is the key. However, somethings we have no control over and we have to deal with whatever we are given. We should learn from the past, but that is not always the case.

I can understand your problems with too much rain. Here in Australia we have had about ten years of unseasonable and huge flooding. I do think we may have damaged the planet severely.

Unfortunately yes.

Does your place get flooded when it rains hard? I am thinking of moving to my sister’s place where I can commune with nature everyday but it gets flooded when it rains hard since it is in a coastal town.

Yes, there is flooding but the area where we live has a lot of ups and downs. So water flows away, there is no stagnation, fortunately,😊

Coconuts are mainly grown in South India and in the states in the eastern side of India.

Interesting that you are still eating foods as they were prepared hundreds of years ago. A friend gave me an old (by our standards) cookbook she found in her old collection. I gave it to my son. He was surprised at how unhealthy those recipes were. We have changed the way we eat in the last 100 years — for the better. Enjoy your days. Muriel

I think people in those days were more active, they had to work really hard . The food they ate was needed in those days. My father-in-law used to tell me delicacies were prepared only during festivals and it was plain fare the other days. These are the days pizzas and burgers and deep fried snacks and sitting in front of the computers the whole day long. By the end of the day people are mentally tired to exercise. So the food has to suit such a life style. I think there are plus and minus points in every age and it depends on us. We should set a limit and our health should permit it. I have heard people rue the fact that they did not eat sweets when they could and diabetes does not permit it ☹️.

You have some good points there.
