Everyday Moments (#SOL-2022)

Today I heard a lot of twittering from the branches of a hibiscus plant outside my kitchen window. My mobile was at hand, and I took some photos of the small birds. They are such a joy. I am grateful that I can hear the birds at all times of the day. The word grateful made me think. Every day, I thank God for all the things I can do and for all that I need not do.

Yesterday we sold our old bike. We had it for a long time but my husband had not used it for many years. Someone came asking, and we decided to sell it. It is better that someone will be using it. It was standing in the corner. But that place was looking very empty ☹

In the evening my mother and I went for a walk on the lanes near home. At one point I heard the sound of a helicopter high above. It was amusing to see many of us looking up instinctively😊. We rarely see helicopters. Some VIP must have come.

In the utility space behind our house the roof sheets had many small holes in them. Fortunately, they were good for almost 17 years. But due to the small holes we could not dry clothes there during the monsoon season. On the 3rd they were changed. The workers were there the whole day. Without the roof, the place looked so different.

Officially the monsoon season has ended, and I have kept all the umbrellas inside 😊. But it is still raining. On the 5th evening, we went to my husband’s cousin’s home. We were visiting them after a long time. Just as we were leaving it started drizzling and then began pouring. We had planned to buy grocery, but we postponed it. On the road most people were without umbrellas 😊.

My mother has got a new denture now. She is getting used to it.

Sunday was a lazy day. We had bread for breakfast. We all enjoy sandwiches. Our regular breakfast fare are different types of dosas. Today afternoon my husband went to the medical library to read journals. He enjoys keeping in touch with dentistry. I went on to Asare. It was good to see a lot of improvement in a small boy who came some months ago. His mother did not want him. He was looked after by his grandparents and when they could not do so, his father got him here. The little boy cannot speak. He is loved by the others, and it was good to see him laughing at what his friend was doing. It was something to smile about and it reminded me of Sadje’s photo. We all need love and appreciation to keep us going., children more so.

I am a person who believes there is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of a small candle. We live in a small place in South India. I love reading, blogging, stitching, traveling, photography, listening to people and many other things which make life so very nice and interesting. Blogging is a fun experience, it has brought me into contact with people in different parts of the world and it is good to read about their everyday life. In spite of the differences there is a sameness which is fascinating. I have learnt and am learning something everyday. I have learnt to write haikus. I enjoy combining the thought and the number of syllables. I have always read books and I was happy to write short fiction. I had thought I would not be able to do so. Stream of Consciousness and photo challenges are fun too. Yes, there is so much in life that is sad and that hurts us. Many a time I wonder why life is so unfair to so many. We all have problems in life but the problems of many seems unbearable. This makes me feel so helpless. It is not possible to help everyone but we can do our bit, we can do something to help some in whatever way we can. Due to the pandemic I could not go to the Home for the mentally challenged for two years. I had been going there since 2011. I have started going again. I was happy that some members remembered me :) All of them are an important part of my life. There have been many challenges in life and we have faced them with a positive approach. Our grandson and granddaughter have made our lives richer.

  1. Whenever we hear a helicopter above us it is usually a life flight landing across the street from us. We usually say a silent prayer for the poor soul in trouble and needing that flight. The sounds of birds brings a smile to my face as well. We enjoy watching them at the feeder outside our dining room window.

  2. Although I like to see and hear the birds singing in our yard, they eat the fruits of the trees and leaves of some plants. They also damage some roof structures by building nests on them.
But it is still amazing to see so many birds even in the city.

  3. We had a major startle this morning when a huge jet flew just overhead. We live near a factory where they build jet engines and it turns out they were celebrating completing a project by flying over. Not a typical morning sound. We do get helicopters, but they are from news stations checking traffic I think. I am glad for the work you do at the home. The little abandoned boy is a treasure in your life.
