The Daily Prompt : Mushroom

Books have always been a part of my life. Long back, Enid Blytons were a fun and exciting moments of the days. Later on, I used to read aloud her books to my children.

Whenever I see mushrooms I remember her books like The Faraway Trees and so many others where elves and goblins and other fairy beings meet. They sat on mushrooms and talked to each other. Those were long ago days when we believed that anything and everything was possible.

Those days will not come back but those memories will always be a part of life.

The Daily Prompt : Simmer

We are reading about people being killed in New York then in Colorado. Innocent people being killed. The same happens everywhere. It is not only killing people but the wanton destruction of what has come down to us from the past. When I read about these acts of violence I believe that the killers and the destroyers allow hatred to simmer in their hearts and minds for a long, long time. Anything that is left to simmer for long may get burnt. So it is with such people. they do not mind killing themselves if they can kill others. It is a tragic reflection of our times.

The Daily Prompt : Gratitude

I think we are lucky if we remember that we have so much to be grateful for. The other day we were telling each other that whenever we feel sad or feel dissatisfied with what comes our way in life, we should make a list of all that we have that fills us with gratitude.

When I read about all acts of violence happening in so many parts of the world, I am filled with gratitude that I am living in a place where the violent world seems far away. But along with this feeling, the thought keeps coming to mind that I should not be feeling grateful when people elsewhere are suffering so much. This is the dilemma that we face in different ways in our lives. The other day I had been to our hospital for the yearly check-up . There were so many patients from different parts of our state. Looking at them I felt that good health is our most precious possession. I was filled with gratitude that I was not part of the hospital world. Again, am I being very selfish? I don’t know. The ‘gratitude’ list is a long one. The minuses are really of no consequence when there is so much to be grateful for.

Gratitude is the music of the heart, when its chords are swept by the breeze of kindness. ~Author Unknown

The Daily Prompt: Release

What would life be like without trees ? Long back I had read a Science fiction story which was set in the far future and there were no trees then !! I don’t remember the name of the story.

One of my favourite poems is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Trees give us so much but we are set on killing them. One of the most important thing that they give is when they release oxygen. How can we live without oxygen ? But still we destroy the ‘giving trees’. What are we leaving behind for the future generations?

The Daily Prompt : Create

I am reading ‘The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying’ by Sogyal Rinpoche. It is very good and I can relate to so much that the author writes. When I read the prompt ‘Create’, the words that he had written about waves came to mind.

Sogyal Rinpoche writes, “Think of a wave in the sea. Seen in one way, it seems to have a distinct identity, an end and a beginning, a birth and a death. Seen in another way, the wave itself doesn’t really exist but is just the behaviour of water, “empty” of any separate identity but “full” of water. So when you really think about the wave, you come to realize that it is something made temporarily possible (created) by wind and water, and that it is dependent on a set of constantly changing circumstances. You also realize that every wave is related to every other wave.”
