The Daily Post Photo Challenge : Wish

Shinto is the dominant religion in Japan, though it is more of a way of life than a way to worship.Visitors to Shinto shrines can purchase small wooden plaques called ema, upon which they can share their hopes and dreams. Then, they hang them amongst other ema from people who have come before them, in the hopes that spirits will grant their wish This week, show us a wish.

“World without hatred

And violence of all kinds

A wish we all wish.

Quiet and a serene life

A wish that is but a dream.”

The serene waters of the lake in our place makes me wish that life everywhere could be as serene. A dream, no doubt, but we can always wish.

  6. Thank you so much for your comment on my post. It was interesting to find someone in India using a fountain pen. When I first read this post I thought, despite your name, you were from Japan. I find the news of children being hurt and abused, not only in war zones but in families too and as a result of natural disasters, and the news seems now to be full of such occurences.
My medical consultant here is Indian, also from southern India. At my last appointment her told me he had visited hi parents in Madras for three weeks during the summer holiday. Your country seems to produce so many excellent doctors.
By the way, the links to photos of ‘you’ lake do not seem to work for me.

  9. Love this ema practice. That is new to me. Glad you wrote about it There is a quote by Michelangelo that goes something like this “The real danger in life is not aiming too high and failing to reach your goal, but rather aiming too low and reaching it. “

  13. Laksmi, in truly liked v your profile and your post you say about one candle that dispels darkness. I say as one lamp lights another nor grows less, so nobleness enkindleth nobleness. Can you imagine this peace in all the light that transforms the darkness of the world.
Thank you for posting a thought provoking blog. Pleasure to meet you.

      1. Mine is the free domain and I cannot exceed a certain limit in the media section. I have deleted photos from my old posts. I wrote that many years ago and I had added a post of lake in our town.

      2. Ah! I hear you. I had a trouble with my old account hitting the limit as well. I received some good advice to use smaller image sizes in my posts and this seems to help.

  18. What a thought provoking post! I love that you bring peace and serenity to the forefront – this alone brings much peace. I think i might post a picture of my dogs snoozing. Their tumultuous lives before rescue – and then their ability to trust us and rest comfortably now brings me joy, which brings peace too.

  20. Yes, Lakshmi Bhat, I agree with you and your beautiful poem. We can wish for something.
But then I also think of a quote I once read:
“It’s not enough to come to the river with the desire to catch fish. You also have to bring the net.”
I hope, you have great time today! 🌻
