Day 3 March SOLSC! #SOL23

Ayurveda Department on the right

Yesterday morning we went with Aravind to the Ayurveda Department for a review. Aravind is Assistant professor in the Department of Languages. He has Retinitis pigmentosa from birth. With God’s blessings and his efforts, he completed his PhD in English Literature in 2016 and is working here. He goes by autorickshaw regularly.

When we reached the department, we were told our doctor had to take leave suddenly. As we were coming out, we saw a tall person near the reception counter. When he turned towards us, we saw he was the son of old friends. He had come for some treatment. We chatted till it was time for him to go in. Our doctor called us just as we reached home, apologized and asked us to come tomorrow morning between eight and nine.

When my husband was studying in the 70s, the building which is now the Ayurveda Department was the mess. He stayed in the hostel nearby. In those days there were many rowdy elements among the students. He remembered watching two gangs with knives from the verandah above. He was laughing now but that night was a scary one 😊.

My mother in Aravind’s office. He is her eldest grandson.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Aravind and his colleagues had organized guest lectures and exhibitions for four days in their department. We had gone to see the paintings and photographs. Both were beautiful. The photographs were black and white ones and taken in different government schools in and around our town.

Kaavi paintings are a beautiful form of art. We were seeing them for the first time. The painter Janardhana Havanje explained the process to us. He had held a workshop for the students, and they loved it. Aravind bought one painting and is looking beautiful on our wall 😊.
