Day 29 of the March SOLSC! #SOL2022

On the 23rd evening we were on the road to Endpoint. Many students were walking and running towards the football ground. It felt good to see them. For two years the whole place wore a deserted look. It was terrible. I was smiling in amusement as I heard them talking about their classes and teachers and something or the other that happened in class. My mother and I were walking slowly, I overheard a little of what they were saying and could guess the rest. Some were wearing their earplugs and were talking on their phones loudly to someone on the other end. They looked so funny 😊.

I remembered those days when  mobile phones started appearing in India . This was in 2002. We did not know anything about them and were startled to see some people talking and making gestures while walking. We thought they were crazy. When they came closer, we realized what was going on. So much has changed in the last twenty years. Now it is as if smart phones have become a part of our persons!! I always feel as children we had more freedom. Parents could not keep tabs on us. 😊

We walked on towards Endpoint. We saw cows walking across the football ground even as the students were playing . Both were used to each other. There have always been cows grazing by the hill sides. And there is good grass for them. Aravind and my husband walked till End Point. When my mother is with us, we walk till a certain point for fifteen minutes and return. This is a good place to walk. Sometimes we just sit and watch the sun set into the Arabian sea.

  1. Taking the moments at a slower pace and noticing what is around you and what it recalls for you are part of the joys of walks.

  2. It seems these days that no one walks anywhere without being glued to their phones. I’m worried that they are missing so much and not even realizing it.

  3. I have seen pictures of people walking into telegraph poles because they were so engrossed in their mobile phones they were not watching where they were going!

  6. Parents can keep tabs on children, which is good, but now governments can keep tabs on nearly everybody. This is potentially extremely worrying..

    1. I feel it is not good if parents are over protective and try to control their children too much. About goverments keeping tab, that is really worrisome. We have an ID card called Aadhar card. It is connected to all details of the citizen!

  7. I wonder if the phone talkers were even aware of the beautiful sunset you and your mother saw. It is a pity that so many miss out on so much because they are tethered to their phones.

  8. This post is a great example of why I always love stopping by your blog–the description of everyday that always feels poetic. My friend just told me that he has a goal not only to walk a certain distance each day, but to do so without any interference from his phone. Maybe more of us should try this.

There you again, slicing through space and time. As your writing shows, so much can happen in two decades or a 15-minute amble.
